Chughtai is accused of grabbing lands in Gulistan-e-Johar and funding a target killer linked with a political party.
Following his arrest, Rabita (Co-ordination) Committee of MQM issued a statement condemning the arrest and called it a flagrant act of vindictiveness.
The Co-ordination Committee had asked authorities including President Mamnoon Hussain, PM Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah whether the Karachi Operation was being done to eliminate terrorism and crime from Karachi or to crush MQM.
On Monday evening, the prominent builder Babar Chughtai was arrested from Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi on charges of land grabbing and funding a target killer affiliated with a political party. Two others were also apprehended along with Babar Chugtai during the raid.
