3-Day Spring Convention of APPNA Kicks Off in Oklahoma

The 3-day Spring Convention of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA) began Thursday April 3, 2025 in the U.S. state of Oklahoma.

On the first day of the convention, APPNA officials were invited to a joint session of the State Assembly and Senate, where they received a warm welcome. They were presented with certificates and tributes in recognition of the services provided by Pakistani doctors.

A delegation led by Dr. Humaira Qamar, President of APPNA for 2025, attended the special session of the State Assembly. The delegation included Dr. Humera Qamar ( President APPNA) Dr. Hassan Kareem, Dr. Muhammad Sanaullah ( Secretary APPNA)Dr. Fazal Akbar Ali ( Chair APPNA Spring Meeting)Dr. Haroon Durrani ( Past President APPNA).

State Assembly members Brian Hill and Neil Hays praised the services of Pakistani doctors in the U.S., stating that their hard work and professional expertise are a valuable asset to American society.

They welcomed the APPNA convention and acknowledged the commendable role of Pakistani doctors.

On this occasion, Dr. Humaira Qamar, President of APPNA, informed the State Assembly that doctors of Pakistani origin are playing a vital role in providing quality healthcare to the American public. APPNA is working to promote public health through its 54 chapters across the U.S., while 4 chapters are active in Canada.

She also expressed happiness that this year, more than 1,000 Pakistani doctors have been selected for residency programs (Match) at various hospitals across the U.S., which is a testament to the high-quality training provided by Pakistan’s medical institutions.

On the occasion, APPNA’s Dr. Kaleem shared that over 200 Pakistani doctors are currently serving in Oklahoma, and around 1,000 doctors are expected to participate in the 3-day convention.

Dr. Sanaullah explained that it’s 2nd time APPNA meeting came to Oklahoma and it’s an opportunity to show that Oklahoma is a great state to practice medicine.
