Alibaba expresses interest to invest in e-commerce sector in Pakistan

DAVOS: Alibaba Holding Group Chairman Jack Ma on Wednesday expressed interest in investing in the e-commerce platform in Pakistan.

Jack Ma met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Davos, Switzerland on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.

Mr. Ma said that they have closely followed positive economic developments and are interested in investing in Pakistan. He said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has provided immense opportunities.

PM Sharif invited Mr. Ma to visit Pakistan at the earliest opportunity. Ma accepted and invited the Prime Minister to visit his company’s hub in Hangzhou.

Mr. Ma mentioned that 60 million companies worldwide are only benefiting at the moment, and he plans to invest in small and medium enterprises to benefit developing countries.

The Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba is the world’s largest retailer as well as one of the largest Internet companies.
