KARACHI: An accountability court on Friday rejected the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for extension in physical remand of Agha Siraj Durrani and sent him to jail till April 26, ARY News reported.
The NAB officials produced Speaker Sindh Assembly Siraj Durrani before the accountability court today.
A large number of People’s Party workers were present at the court premises chanting slogans in support of the arrested party leader.
The NAB pleaded to the court for 15 days’ extension in physical remand of Durrani. The court after arguments of lawyers rejected the request of the bureau and ordered the accused to be sent to jail on judicial remand till April 26.
Earlier today, the Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notice to the NAB to submit its reply on April 24 over a bail petition of Agha Siraj Durrani.
Durrani in his petition in high court challenged his arrest in corruption inquiries over alleged embezzlement of public funds and illegal appointments in government departments.
Agha Siraj Durrani pleaded to the court that his arrest was illegal and was done in violation of the law.
He pleaded to the court for his release on bail and abrogation of the NAB inquiry against him.
Agha Siraj Durrani was arrested in Islamabad on Feb 20.
