KARACHI: The ongoing coldwave, which has struck most cities and towns of the country will subside in the next two to three days, ARY News reported on Friday citing weather department forecasts.

Intense coldwave with frosty winds bring temperatures down across the country. Islamabad  went through its coldest day in 46 years as the mercury plunged to three below Celsius.

Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, known for cosy winters, recorded a minimum temperature of six degrees Celsius.

Weather officials said that the coldwave was the fallout of frosty weather conditions in Europe as cold winds coming from there dry up after crossing the Central Asian region.

According to met officials extreme cold and dry winds also delaying the winter rains as the strong currents push the warm, moist winds rising from the Arabian Sea. The rains are likely to begin after mid-January, experts said.
