Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo shared a heartbreaking tribute for his teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash in Spain.

The 28-year-old forward was with his brother Andre when their car crashed near Zamora in northwestern Spain and burst into flames.

The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed the Liverpool star’s death in the crash along with his brother on Thursday.

“We have lost two champions. Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will do everything we can to honour their legacy every day,” the Portuguese Football Federation said in a statement.

Following Diogo Jota’s tragic death, his Portuguese teammate Cristiano Ronaldo found it hard to make sense of the tragedy, while mourning his passing.

“It doesn’t make sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married,” the Portuguese soccer star wrote in a post on Facebook.

Cristiano Ronaldo added, “To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you.”

It is worth noting here that Diogo Jota was with Liverpool when they won the Premier League last season.

He also made 49 appearances for Portugal, twice winning the UEFA Nations League.
