Former Pakistan red-ball coach Jason Gillespie has reacted to the appointment of Mike Hesson as the new white-ball coach of Pakistan’s team.

The former Australia pacer was appointed as Pakistan’s Test coach in April last year on a two-year contract; however, he resigned from the post in December, less than eight months into the job.

In a recent interview with a foreign media outlet, Jason Gillespie offered advice to New Zealand’s Mike Hesson, who was appointed as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team effective on May 26.

“Speaking from my own experience, you sometimes ask yourself — why make such a move? But the chance to work with Pakistan’s players is a fantastic opportunity for any coach,” he said in an interview with a foreign media outlet.

The former Pakistan coach advised Mike Hesson to enjoy the experience of coaching players who are eager to learn and improve.

“Just enjoy the experience. He’ll absolutely love working with the players and coaching staff. It’ll be fun and incredibly rewarding. The players are eager to learn and committed to improving — he’ll have a great time,” Jason Gillespie said.

He added, “The players are very coachable. They listen, they’re respectful, and they were an absolute pleasure to work with. They just want to improve and get better — that’s what made working with them so enjoyable.”

It is to be noted here that the Pakistan cricket team, under Mike Hesson and T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, recently completed a dominant 3-0 home series win over Bangladesh in Lahore earlier this month.
