Quetta: Pakistan has officially closed several key border crossings with Iran in Balochistan province for an unspecified period, citing escalating regional security concerns stemming from the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.

The move, announced by various deputy commissioners across the province, aims to safeguard public safety.

The closures affect crucial crossing points in Gwadar and Panjgur districts, including Gabd-Kalato and other routes. Both pedestrian movement and fuel transportation have been suspended until further notice. Officials emphasized that these precautionary measures are in response to the potential for instability in Iran and the wider region.

The decision comes as Pakistan continues efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of its nationals abroad. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that 450 Pakistani pilgrims were evacuated from Iran over the weekend, with further evacuations planned for both pilgrims and students from Iran and Iraq.

While most pedestrian and fuel movements have been halted, some reports indicate that the Taftan border crossing in Chagai district remains operational for trade and returning Pakistani citizens, though new entries into Iran are restricted.

Local authorities have urged residents in Balochistan to cooperate with the directives, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain vigilant during this period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty. The closures are expected to impact daily wage laborers and small-scale traders reliant on cross-border movement.
