CM Punjab launches free higher education for workers’ children

LAHORE: On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a major step towards the welfare of industrial and mine workers has been taken, with the launch of a free higher education initiative for their children.

Under the Workers’ Children Free Education Program, qualified students will be able to get admission in seven campuses of COMSATS University, with the Punjab government taking complete responsibility for their education and funding.

The children of registered industrial and mine workers will be eligible to avail the program, along with the children whose parents are either disabled or deceased.

The online application process is open for students through the COMSATS University admissions portal, where they can submit required documents like the CNIC of the worker, registration certificate, the CNIC of the student or B-form, and proof of social security or EOBI enrollment.

The application deadlines for the Workers’ Children Free Education Program vary by campus, with Islamabad closing applications on July 9, Lahore on July 17, Wah Cantt and Abbottabad on August 4, Vehari and Attock on August 11, and Sahiwal on August 15.

While addressing on Workers’ Children Free Education Program, CM Maryam Nawaz highlighted the government’s promise to ensure that every child in Punjab, despite financial background, can avail of higher education.

“Workers are the pride of our province. We are opening the gates of the best educational institutions for their children. No child in Punjab should be deprived of education,” she stated.

This groundbreaking initiative focuses to elevate working-class families and create better future opportunities for their children.

By providing access to quality university education, the Punjab government is making a landmark move toward ensuring equal academic opportunities for all.

On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab government had officially proceeded with a modern branchless banking system to pay wages in the department of Forest, abolishing the traditional cash payment system.
