KARACHI: An attempted robbery on the newly constructed Malir Expressway (Shahrah-e-Bhutto) on Thursday raised serious concerns among commuters regarding the security of the route.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a citizen, identified as Usama, recounting the experience.
According to him, robbers tried to ambush several vehicles by placing tree branches in the middle of the Malir Expressway (Shahrah-e-Bhutto) to force drivers to stop. The incident occurred near Quaidabad.
The dacoits fled the scene after facing resistance from commuters who fired shots in defense, he said.
The citizen also criticized the absence of police or other security personnel at Malir Expressway.
Meanwhile, according to a police spokesperson, Malir police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the report. Efforts are underway to contact the victim, and police patrols have been increased in the area, he added.
Officials said that development work is ongoing at the spot where the alleged robbers were reportedly seen, and initial investigations suggest they may have come from nearby localities. An inquiry is currently underway.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two robbers were killed and another was taken into custody in injured condition after shoot out with police in Karachi, ARY News reported on Thursday.
As per details, a fierce exchange of fire broke out between Shahrah-e-Faisal police and armed robbers on Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road late last night.
According to police officials, two robbers were killed on the spot while a third was injured and taken into custody.
The suspects were reportedly looting citizens when they opened fire upon spotting the police. In the retaliatory fire, two were shot dead instantly.
