Treason Trial against Musharraf begins

ISLAMABAD: A special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab started hearing of the treason case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf here on Thursday, ARY News reports. 

The court had ordered production of Musharraf in the hearing at any cost but the former military strongman was yet to produce before the bench during the hearing today.

The trial court in previous hearing had warnted arrest of the former president in case of his absence. 

As the hearing begins defence counsel Anwar Mansoor complained to the court that the government prosecutor Akram Shaikh has given threats to him outside the court before hearing of the case. 

Another counsel of Musharraf Ibrahim Satti informed the court that chief prosecutor Akram Shaikh in a secret meeting with him warned that Shareefuddin Pirzada always defends dictators, we will not leave him.

Akram Shaikh, however, clarifying his position said that he didn't threaten Ibrahim Satti but requested to avoid personal attacks in the case.

Stringent security measures have been taken for the hearing with deployment of 1500 security men.

Moreover, security agencies initiated a search operation in surrounding of the Chak Shahzad residence of Pervez Musharraf in Islamabad.
