KARACHI: Pakistani batsman Shahid Afridi has said that he never thought that a New Zealand player would break his record of scoring the fastest One Day International (ODI) century, ARY News reports from Karachi.
Ealier, left handed Kiwi batsman Corey Anderson broke Afridi's record of the fastest ODI century as he scored his ton on 36 balls. Afridi, in 1996, had scored the century on 37 balls and was the world record that time.
Speaking to ARY News today, Shahid Afridi stated that he was asleep when he heard the news from his nephew that his nearly 18 year old record was broken. He said that he was surprised after hearing the news.
He said that he feared that West Indies batsman Chris Gayle or Australian batsman David Warner would break his record. He added that he hadn't even heard of Corey Anderson.
The flamboyant Pakistani cricketer said that records are made to be broken but he wished that his record would remain till his retirement but it did not happen.
