ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday has decided to start the training of staff for the general elections from next week, ARY News reported, citing sources.

The country’s supreme electoral body has sought details of the electoral staff from the provincial election commissioners. Meanwhile, a list of 40 master trainers has been finalised, the sources within the ECP said and added that they will receive the training at the ECP secretariat.

The senior ECP officials will train the 40 master trainers in three to four days. The master trainers will give training to the district returning officers, returning officers and assistant returning officers in the field.

Later on the process of training the electoral staff will be initiated.

It may be noted that the poll controversy in the Punjab and KP was settled by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The SC in its split verdict directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure holding polls in Punjab and KP within 90 days.
