Dar advises to prefer gas for power production

During the meeting MD PSO informed the demand of furnace oil has been increased due to summer and Ramazan while payments received are low and not timely.

He briefed that usually electricity production from hydel sector in the month of July is around 6,500 megawatts, but due to water shortage in dams, this stands at 5200 megawatts.

Speaking on the occasion, Ishaq Dar advised that gas should be given priority for electricity production.

He urged that fuel consumption of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) should be according to their power production. He said mechanism of fuel supplies to IPPs should be efficient.

The Minister said the government is focusing on use of natural gas, coal, solar and wind to reduce furnace oil consumption.
Ishaq Dar assured to sort out financial crisis of PSO on priority basis.
