KARACHI: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet on Thursday evening for the sighting of the moon of Rajab ul Murajab 1440.

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, will preside over the meeting in Karachi.

Zonal and District Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also meet at their respective headquarters.

Rajab ul Murajab is the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The Muslims observe Shab-e-Mairaj every year on 27th of this month.

The word Mairaj is derived from Arabic word Urooj, which means ascension. The holy Prophet (PBUH) visited the highest heaven on the night to meet Allah (SWT). Five daily prayers were made compulsory during the night of Mairaj.

On this night, the believers offer special prayers at mosques to seek the mercy and forgiveness of Allah (SWT). The religious clerics highlight the occurrence of Mairaj and its importance in the teachings of Islam.
