ISLAMABAD: Explaining that “the captivating grandeur of our land” is why he would be happy to remain confined here to work for people, Prime Minister Imran Khan  on Saturday once again took a dig at opposition politicians for making a fuss over inclusion of names in the Exit Control List (ECL) and “not appreciating” the beauty the country boasts.

Sharing footage offering snapshots of Baltoro glaciers in the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan and rare Himalayan animals, the prime minister said in a tweet, “The majestic beauty and diversity of our land is unparalleled.”

“Sadly this beauty is not appreciated by our ruling elite which is why ECL is such a calamity for them,” he said in reference to an outrage by opposition parties, particularly PPP, over the placement of the names of former president Asif Ali Zardari, his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in the ECL.

“The captivating grandeur of our land is why I would be happy just remaining confined here working for our people,” he said.

Earlier, on Jan 17, the prime minister questioned the “fear” exit control list (ECL) instills in lawmakers and their keenness to flee abroad.

“Why are some of our lawmakers so scared of the ECL? Why are they so keen to go abroad? There is so much work to be done by politicians in & for Pak – the land they claim to love but some cannot wait to take frequent trips abroad & lawmakers have iqamas or residencies abroad,” he tweeted.
