ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar, summoned inspector general of Islamabad Police in a case pertaining to Gilgit Baltistan minister’s misbehaviour with a Pakistan International Airline (PIA) official, ARY News reported on Friday.
The IG Islamabad arrived at the court soon after the summon. The CJP asked him about the measures he had taken in response to the incident. The city’s top cop responded that that new Islamabad International Airport falls under the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi.
Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Minister Fida Hussain also appeared before the apex court.
“Are you the same minister who shoved and pushed the PIA official at the airport,” the CJP inquired.
The chief justice also sought the video from officials to see what had actually happened. He asked the minister: “Were you in the senses when you misbehaved with the airline officer?”
Fida Hussain conceded before the court that he had pushed the officer, but hastened to add, ‘there was a reason for it’. I was waiting at the airport for 4am, [and the flight did not take off after many hours]. “It was a moment of complete helplessness even being a minister,” he regretted
“How did you intervene into the government affair,” Mr. Nisar asked the minister, and said: “You should apologise to the persons you’d misbehaved with.”
He responded that he was ashamed of his mistake, ‘to err is human,’ he added.
On November 15, Gilgit-bound Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-607 scheduled for 7am was first delayed due to technical reasons and cancelled later due to bad weather.
Videos of an angry passenger protesting against the delay went viral on social media that day. The passenger set fire to his possessions in protest over the delay, including his jacket. In another video of the same incident, reportedly the tourism minister, can be seen arguing with a white-uniformed official.
