ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday gave three days’ time to former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to appear before it in a case pertaining to the appointment of former PTV chairman Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, who was heading a three-judge bench, warned that contempt of court proceedings may be initiated against the PML-N leader if he failed to appear before the court within three days.
He said that the court will revoke his passport over his failure to appear before it.
The chief justice expressed displeasure over the absence of the PML-N leader in court and asked: “We had summoned Ishaq Dar. Where’s he.”
He expressed displeasure when the attorney general informed that he hasn’t returned from London.
Justice Nisar said he will revoke Dar’s passport who he said didn’t turn up despite being summoned by the top court. He said the court will also consider issuing red warrants for his arrest through Interpol.
The court will do whatever it will deem fit to ensure his return to the country, he warned.
It is important to note here that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has already suspended the Senate membership of Dar on the directives of the apex court.
