No institution will back unconstitutional steps in future: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Wednesday that no institution in future will now support any unconstitutional step in future, ARY News reported. 

The outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan was addressing full court reference in his honour in Supreme Court. 

He said the lawyers movement for supremacy of the law was given credence by the parliament in the 18th Amendment of the constitution.

Earlier, addressing the full court reference Chief Justice-designate Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani said that the judiciary will have to reconsider its procedures. There should be rules and regulations about the court’s power to take notice of the issues for suo moto hearing, Justice Tassadduq observed.
