SRINAGAR: At least two people, including a woman, were killed when Indian government troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on protesters in Islamabad district of the India-held Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian troops opened fire on protesters in Dialgram area of the district, leaving two demonstrators dead and several others injured.

The deceased were identified as Tariq Ahmed and Tahira Begum.

According to the report the occupation forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation early Saturday morning, igniting protests by people of the area who took to the streets chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.

To disperse crowds the troops opened fire killing two civilians and injuring many others.

The report quoted an eyewitness as saying, “Tariq and Tahira were hit by bullets fired by the troops.”
