The actor, in the Spanish capital to promote his new film “Jason Bourne”, was presented with a shirt of the Champions League finalists by club president Enrique Cerezo, a respected film producer, complete with Damon’s name on the back.
Damon, 45, said Atletico “remind me of my favourite team, the Boston Red Sox”, the baseball team whose colours are also red and white.
“It’s our summer signing, joining next week, fresh from the US,” joked Cerezo, who has similarly “signed” in the past movie stars Harrison Ford, Halle Berry and Samuel L. Jackson.
