This came at a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at Ufa in Russia today.
They noted that both Pakistan and India have a collective responsibility to ensure peace and promote development.
Peace dialogue between the two neighbouring countries have been suspended since January 2013 after flare up of tensions at the LoC.
Later, briefing the newsmen about the meeting, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said the two prime minister condemned terrorism in all its forms. They agreed to cooperate to eliminate this menace in South Asia.
Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. Both the sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional issues.
Indian External Affairs Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said the two countries have also agreed to hold a meeting in New Delhi to discuss matters pertaining to elimination of terrorism.
He said an early meeting between DG Indian border security force and DG Rangers Pakistan will be held which will be followed by the meeting of DGMOs. He said decision has been taken to release fishermen in each other’s country with boats within a period of fifteen days.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of visiting Pakistan next year.
Indian External Affairs Secretary S.J. Shankar “Pakistan and India both condemn all types of terrorism”, he said.
The Indian foreign secretary added that the two neighbouring countries have also agreed to release fishermen in jails as a goodwill gesture.
They also agreed on the following steps to be taken by the two sides:
- A meeting in New Delhi between the two NSAs to discuss all issues connected to terrorism.
- Early meetings of DG BSF and DG Pakistan Rangers followed by that of DGMOs.
- Decision for release of fishermen in each other’s custody, along with their boats, within a period of 15 days.
- Mechanism for facilitating religious tourism.
- Both sides agreed to discuss ways and means to expedite the Mumbai case trial, including additional information like providing voice samples.
