Several passengers were injured when five bogies of the Quetta bound train derailed near Madeji in Shikarpur district of Sindh due to cracks in the embankment of Dadu Canal.
The train was on way to Quetta from Karachi when it derailed due to a crack in the canal bank. The crack had weakened the rail track making a hole beneath it causing the accident.
The rescue teams rushed to the place of the incident and launched relief operations, local authorities said.
According to relief sources, a relief train has reached in the area for the passengers of the derailed train.
DCO Railways has said that five additional bogies have been attached with Akbar Bugti Express for the passengers of Bolan Mail.
He also said that the affected portion of the railway track could not be repaired until the repair of the breach in the dyke of Dadu Canal.
